Modern Albatross by Monika Kostera

Barreleye fish,
living near the depths where
light turns to blackness,
have transparent heads.
Even in perfect darkness
they are able to see,
straight ahead, upwards, downwards,
by moving their eyes
around in their heads.
Taken up to the surface,
they fail to impress:
they decompress
and
their heads explode.
