Feeling Down by Howie Good

I only get so far

impersonating myself,

become like the dog

with a broken spine

left lying in the road,

dog’s heart embossed

with hallucinations

and made-up words,

memories of being

frequently visited

by a hot gust of wind,

that pinkish gray

called Ashes of Roses.

Howie Good is the author of  Dangerous Acts Starring Unstable Elements, winner of the 2015 Press Americana Prize for Poetry.
