Feeling Down by Howie Good

I only get so far

impersonating myself,

become like the dog

with a broken spine

left lying in the road,

dog’s heart embossed

with hallucinations

and made-up words,

memories of being

frequently visited

by a hot gust of wind,

that pinkish gray

called Ashes of Roses.
