Digital Imperialism by Stephen Nelson

Planets flowering inside poppies,
monuments erected to ancient technicians;
Look! – they’ve pulled the worlds apart,
……….and we inherit a library of data,
insights, epiphanies; digital rejection
……………………………………………….slips
downloading antique pornography for Victorian teenagers. I know the password,
……and I rise, dust off
the mechanical trauma of megapixels.
I don’t have time to be gentle anymore; I was seeded
in solar winds, internet savvy
and programmed for war.
I hope this time loop spins around again,
and is significant,
and is redeemable.
Unless you have anything to tell me about the shadowy visitors I’ve encountered,
please leave your iPhone at the door,
and reconvene a conference on the magic of kaleidoscopes.
Otherwise, nothing’s new except the spurious delights of inter-planetary colonisation.
